History of IIST
The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), a deemed to be university and an autonomous body under the Department of Space (DOS) was formed in 2007. IIST was set up with the primary objective of generating high quality human resources to meet the requirements of DOS/ISRO. IIST presently functions from a 100 acre campus at Valiamala, located about 20 Km from Thiruvantapuram city in Kerala.
IIST Offers a range of academic programmes namely B. Tech. and M. Tech. with specific focus on space science and space technology and applications.
Apart from its undergraduate and post graduate programmes, IIST also offers a vibrant environment for the doctoral and post-doctoral programmes in areas related to Aerospace Engineering, Avionics, Astronomy & Astrophysics, Atmospheric Sciences, Chemistry, Earth System Science, Humanities, Mathematics, Physics and Remote Sensing.
Modern laboratory and excellent research facilities have been established in IIST by the departments of Aerospace Engineering, Avionics, Chemistry, Physics and Methematics and Earth and Space Sciences. Internship opportunities are available for students at ISRO Centers.
The institute, in the its seventh year of establishment since 2007, saw the first realization of its major mission of providing quality manpower to DOS/ISRO in 2011. The students passed out in the subsequent batches who fulfilled the required academic criteria were also placed in various DOS/ISRO centres.
A fully residential campus provides separate hostel facilities for boys and girls, state of the art reference library, Wi-Fi enabled academic and hostel blocks and a centralized high end computing facility. Excellent sports and recreational facilities are available to the students within the campus. Students are provided with book grant and book bank facility.

- Qualify write the JEE (advanced) 2014 examination.
- To qualify for applying for IIST make sure you have minimum of 72 marks (GEN) in JEE Main . ( 65 – OBC | 36 – SC/ST/PD)
- In the month of May 2014 go to IIST website and register yourself.
- Rank List will be displayed after a month
- If still interested proceed with the admission.
Scholarship and Fee Structure
The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology would fund high performing students every semester. All needs will be taken care of , which includes the Hostel Fee, Tuition Fee, Students Amenity Fee, Establishments charges and Medical needs if required. Also, a book allowance of Rs. 3000 would be given the student every semester.
